7 Tips If It Rains On Your Office Relocation Day

On the day of your office relocations, the chances of anything going wrong are extremely slim, especially if you have had the sense to hire professional removalists to facilitate your move. However, even the very best removalist company cannot legislate for things occurring which they cannot control, one of which is the weather, and that means on the day of your move you might have to deal with torrential rain.

Now, before we go any further, we appreciate that some people reading this might be fortunate (or unfortunate, depending on how you view it) to live in an area where rainfall is minimal. However, even in the driest of climates, it does rain sometimes and that could just be the day of your office relocation, so this advice should apply to almost everyone.

So, if it does happen to rain on the day of your office relocation, and worse, there are downpours, how can you mitigate the problem of items getting wet and, ideally, eliminate the risk of anything being damaged? Well, read on, and our seven tips will answer those questions.

Tip #1: Check The Weather Forecast In Advance: The boy scout’s motto of ‘Be Prepared’ is very apt with regards to office relocations and one way you can ensure you are prepared if it rains on your moving day is to know so in advance by regularly checking the weather forecast on the days leading up to it.

Tip #2: Wrap Everything In Waterproof Bags: Cardboard packing boxes will absorb moisture, including rain, which is obviously not desirable. The solution is to wrap those boxes and everything else that needs to be protected with waterproof bags. The cheapest option is placing items in large plastic bin bags which can also be cut and taped together to form waterproof coverings for larger items.

Tip #3; Create A Temporary Cover: In the areas between where your removalist’s vans are parked when loading or unloading, and the premises, if there is no available shelter from the rain, then you might want to create a temporary one. A gazebo, if you have one, does the trick, as would plastic sheeting stretched across and tied above the area.

Tip #4: Keep Floors Dry As Possible: In rainy weather floors get wet and the last thing you want is someone getting injured or equipment being damaged due to them slipping. Try to keep floors as safe as possible by placing cardboard on the floors to provide a drier surface underfoot.

Tip #5: Make Carrying Distances As Short As Possible: To reduce amount of walking on wet surfaces and the length of time items are exposed to rain, you should make the distance between vans and the locations as short as possible. This may mean temporarily parking on the pavement or reversing right up to the door.

Tip #6: Make Valuable And Delicate Items Your Priority: There are bound to be some items and equipment which are especially valuable either with respect to their replacement cost or their importance to the business. These should be given top priority with regards to waterproofing and protecting them, even if it means some less valuable items are not protected.

Tip #7: Dry Wet Items Immediately: If the worst does happen and some items, equipment, or furniture do get exposed to the rain and become wet, do not delay in drying them off. The quicker they are dried the less chance there is of them being water damaged.so ensure there are plenty of towels available to everyone.
